The main stars of the museum, of course, are its exhibits. Among the Cypriot antiquities, you can find a composite vase from the early Bronze Age, fish-decorated plates, and an exact replica of the ancient Kyrenia ship. However, what usually makes an even greater impression on visitors are the specimens of Mediterranean marine fauna, which were collected after their natural death. The displays include shells, colorful corals, sponges, stuffed fish, mammals, birds, and other marine organisms.
Lovers’ Bridge
The most romantic spot on the entire island is considered to be this part of the southern coast, so if you’re planning magical proposals in Cyprus, here’s the ideal location (though perhaps not the most original, as every other beach nearby is likely to be less frequented by love-struck couples). The Lovers’ Bridge, as it’s called, is a natural stone arch extending from a coastal plateau into the crystal-clear, turquoise sea. This spot gained its fame not only for its stunning views but also for the legends associated with it. It’s said that your deepest wishes will come true if you kiss your significant other while standing in the middle of the arch. Bridge of Love
The stone Lovers’ Bridge should not be confused with its nearby neighbor, the Bridge of Love. Interestingly, it doesn’t span a river but crosses over a small stream. This bridge was specifically created as a symbol of love. Magical Cape Greco Peninsula
Just 10 km separates Ayia Napa from one of southern Cyprus’ natural gems. Cape Greco National Park, located on the eastern coast of the island, is one of the most visited nature reserves. Ayioi Anargyroi Chapel
One of the few structures you’ll encounter within the Cape Greco National Park is the Agioi Anargyroi Chapel. This small building is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, physicians who miraculously healed the sick without asking for payment. Though the interior of the chapel is rather modest, its exterior, echoing the typical Greek white-and-blue buildings, attracts a fair share of tourists. Its charm is enhanced by its location on a small rocky cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of Cape Greco.
Makronissos Tombs
Heading west from Ayia Napa, after less than 8 km, you’ll find yourself near the previously mentioned Makronissos Beach. The excavation of this ancient burial site from Roman and Hellenistic times is one of the most fascinating discoveries in Ayia Napa.
So far, nineteen tombs, a small sanctuary, and part of an ancient quarry adjacent to the cemetery have been uncovered. Unfortunately, all the tombs discovered so far have been looted, and not all are in good condition. Nevertheless, they are worth seeing to transport yourself, if only for a moment, to the Cyprus of hundreds of years ago through the power of imagination.
